Honourable Commissioner, Sam Egube, Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, says that the government is aggressively preparing the city to overtake other cities in Africa to become the hub for the manufacturing, technology, and financial services in this dispensation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement(AfCFTA).

This is even as no fewer than sixty Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) from Nigeria, Germany, Italy, France, and Indonesia are exhibiting innovative products, solutions, and technology that enhances business and operational processes in the ongoing Equipment and Manufacturing West Africa ((EMWA) Expo 2021, organized by Zenith Exhibitions.

Commissioner Egube, who declared the expo open today (Tuesday) at the Land Mark Event Center, after his keynote address, said:” We believe in Lagos that when people and businesses flourish, the state will flourish as well. And that is why Lagos State is investing very significantly in transportation infrastructure to ensure that the movement of people and goods is seamless. It is an aggressive project undertaken by Governor Sanwo -Olu

He noted that when the Lekki deep sseaportsphase 1 and 2, are completed, it will scale up the volumes of cargoes by four times the capacity of Apapa ports.

He said likewise that the Badagry deep seaport is to create the readiness of the State towards the competition in the AfCFTA.

“The competition will not be countries competing with one another, but cities competing with cities, and we want Lagos to be that hub.

“The rail networks from Agbado down to Oyingbo will take 22.5 million people every month and this will reduce their travel time to 45 minutes from 2 hours.
The 15 jetties project will be completed this year, while the other projects will be completed within the next two years. You can imagine what that will mean to the productivity of our people.

As I said earlier, when the people of Lagos prospers, Lagos will also prosper,” he said.

Continental Dream

He stressed that by the time the monorail including the waterways projects are completed when investors come they will see a Lagos that is ready for AfCFTA.
